The highly anticipated second season of Arcane, the League of Legends animated series on Netflix, is set to premiere next month. To celebrate, Riot Games is introducing a new champion to League of Legends in Patch 14.22: Ambessa Medarda, the formidable matriarch of the Noxian Medarda family.

Ambessa first appeared in Arcane offering counsel to her daughter, Mel. Following Jinx’s devastating attack on the Piltover council, Ambessa is poised for vengeance in the upcoming season. Her compelling presence in the show inspired Riot Games to integrate her into the game itself. Game designer Max Perlman shared with MaagX that Arcane provided a “jumping off point” to develop Ambessa’s unique kit and abilities.

Designed as a top lane champion, Ambessa excels in 1v1 combat. Her passive ability, Drakehound’s Step, allows her to dash after casting an ability. This empowers her next ability with increased range, damage, attack speed, and refunds energy. Her Q ability, Cunning Sweep, is a blade attack dealing damage in front of her. Upon hitting an enemy, it transforms into Sundering Slam, inflicting bonus damage to the first target while damaging enemies in a line.

Ambessa’s W ability, Repudiation, provides a shield as she slams the ground, damaging nearby enemies. Lacerate, her E ability, deals damage around her and synergizes with Drakehound’s Step, enabling a double strike. Her ultimate ability, Public Execution, teleports her to the furthest enemy champion in a chosen line, suppressing, damaging, and stunning them.

This aggressive playstyle makes Ambessa a compelling choice for both seasoned players and newcomers inspired by Arcane. Riot Games is further integrating the show into the game with a new All Random, All Mid (ARAM) map based on the Bridge of Progress, launching between Patch 14.22 and January 8, 2025.

This isn’t the only Arcane-themed content coming to League of Legends. Between the launch of patch 14.22 and January 8, 2025, players can expect more Arcane inspired features, including a new map for the All Random All Mid (ARAM) game mode based on the iconic Bridge of Progress.

The second season of Arcane will be released in three acts on November 9th, 16th, and 23rd.
