The Ford Mustang Mach-E, an all-electric SUV, has already broken new ground for the iconic Mustang nameplate. Now, Ford is pushing the boundaries even further with the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally, a performance variant designed for exhilarating drives on both paved roads and dirt tracks.

Inspired by Rally Racing Heritage
Rally racing, a motorsport where drivers race against the clock on challenging courses featuring diverse surfaces like dirt, gravel, and snow, has a rich history of inspiring legendary performance cars. Think Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and Ford’s own Focus RS. While the Mustang hasn’t traditionally been associated with rallying, the Mach-E Rally aims to change that perception.
Rally-Inspired Design and Enhanced Durability
The Mach-E Rally embraces the rally aesthetic with distinctive design elements, including integrated spotlights in the grille, a Focus RS-inspired rear spoiler, and robust 19-inch wheels. A new front splitter enhances ground clearance, while contrasting exterior trim and racing stripes add to the aggressive look. Crucially, added underbody shielding protects the motors from debris encountered on rough terrain.

Performance and Handling Upgrades
Beyond its rugged styling, the Mach-E Rally boasts serious performance enhancements. It inherits the dual-motor all-wheel drive system from the Mach-E GT, targeting 480 horsepower and a substantial 650 lb-ft of torque—a notable increase over the GT’s 600 lb-ft. Ford projects the Rally to achieve a 0-60 mph time faster than the GT Performance Edition’s 3.5 seconds.
To further enhance its off-road capabilities, the Mach-E Rally features a unique suspension with a 0.7-inch higher ride height, upgraded brakes, and a dedicated RallySport drive mode. The removal of the glass roof reduces weight and lowers the center of gravity, improving handling and agility. Ford even developed a specialized test track at its Romeo, Michigan, proving grounds, benchmarking the WRX during development and tuning.
Range, Charging, and Advanced Features
The Mach-E Rally utilizes the same 91 kilowatt-hour Extended Range battery pack as the GT and GT Performance Edition. While range is estimated at 250 miles—slightly less than the GT’s 270 miles and the GT Performance Edition’s 260 miles—DC fast charging from 10% to 80% takes an estimated 36 minutes.

Like other Mach-E models, the Rally will offer Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driver-assist system, featuring improved lane change assist and in-lane repositioning. The Mach-E’s 15.5-inch touchscreen interface will also receive updates, including a dedicated camera button and relocated temperature controls on a physical knob.

Pricing and Availability
The Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally is slated for release in early 2024, with deliveries following shortly after. With a starting price of approximately $65,000, it positions itself among the pricier Mach-E variants. However, it offers a unique proposition in the expanding electric performance vehicle market, competing with upcoming models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and the electric Volkswagen GTI hot hatchback.
