Following reports of its disbandment, Ubisoft has confirmed that a majority of the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has been moved to other projects. This news comes after speculation arose regarding the game’s sales performance and the future of the franchise.

A recent video by gaming outlet Origami suggested that Ubisoft, disappointed with The Lost Crown’s sales, reassigned the Ubisoft Montpellier team. The video claimed the team pitched a sequel or a larger expansion, but Ubisoft prioritized projects with higher sales potential. This information aligns with discussions on platforms like ResetEra, where users summarized and translated the video’s content.

The Lost Crown senior producer Abdelhak Elguess, in a statement to MaagX, corroborated some of these details. Elguess confirmed that “most” of the team is now contributing to other Ubisoft projects “that will benefit from their expertise.” While further content updates for The Lost Crown are not planned, Elguess reassured fans that this doesn’t mark the end of Prince of Persia.

According to Elguess, “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has reached the end of its post-launch roadmap, including three free content updates and one DLC released in September. Our current focus is expanding the game’s accessibility. It recently launched on Steam and will be available on Mac this winter.”

While Ubisoft hasn’t specified these new projects, Insider Gaming reports that team members have been shifted to Beyond Good and Evil 2, a mainline Ghost Recon title, and a Rayman remake.

This news comes amidst a turbulent period for Ubisoft. The company recently delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows from November to February 14, 2025, citing the need for further polish and refinement. This significant delay, coupled with lower-than-anticipated sales for Star Wars Outlaws, prompted Ubisoft to adjust its business model. Changes include eliminating season passes and launching games on Steam concurrently with other platforms. CEO Yves Guillemot also announced an internal review to better align the company with player feedback.

Star Wars Outlaws has since received a revised roadmap prioritizing bug fixes and quality-of-life enhancements. Additionally, Ubisoft reduced the price of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Collector’s Edition by $50 to compensate for the canceled season pass.

In conclusion, while Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown might not see further content updates, the development team’s expertise will contribute to other Ubisoft projects. The future of the Prince of Persia franchise remains uncertain, but Ubisoft’s recent adjustments and internal review suggest a renewed focus on player satisfaction and product quality.
