The iconic Buick Electra nameplate is returning, but with a modern twist. Unlike its gas-guzzling predecessors, the new Electra will be Buick’s first all-electric vehicle. Leading the charge is the 2025 Electra E5 SUV, built on General Motors’ versatile Ultium platform. This upcoming EV promises a long-range driving experience without the exorbitant price tag often associated with electric vehicles. While details remain scarce, we’ve compiled everything we know so far about the Buick Electra E5.
Buick Electra E5 Price and Release Date
Buick has remained tight-lipped about the Electra E5’s price. Industry speculation suggests a starting price around $50,000, with higher trims commanding a premium. Regarding the release date, Buick has confirmed a late 2024 launch as a 2025 model year vehicle, but the precise timing remains undisclosed.

While official details on trims and colors are pending, Buick’s existing lineup provides some clues. We anticipate the Electra E5 will follow a similar structure, potentially offering “Preferred,” “Essence,” and “Avenir” trims, each with escalating features and price points. Concept images showcase a sleek metallic blue, but the final color palette remains a mystery.
Buick Electra E5 Range and Charging
Leveraging the GM Ultium platform, the Electra E5’s range and charging capabilities are likely comparable to the Cadillac Lyriq, which boasts up to 312 miles of range and 190kW fast charging, adding 76 miles in just 10 minutes. While official figures haven’t been released, we expect the Electra E5 to deliver similar performance.

Buick Electra E5 Performance
Buick has yet to disclose performance specifics. However, given the shared Ultium platform, the Electra E5 might mirror the Cadillac Lyriq’s acceleration. The rear-wheel-drive Lyriq achieves 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive variant clocks in at 4.6 seconds. We anticipate the Electra E5 to offer comparable performance figures.

A glimpse into the Electra E5’s interior reveals a luxurious cabin dominated by a sprawling 30-inch display spanning the dashboard, integrating instrument cluster and infotainment system. This curved screen will likely support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot. Further tech features are expected to be unveiled closer to launch.
Buick Electra E5 Tax Credit Eligibility
The Electra E5’s manufacturing location remains uncertain. While a Chinese-market version will be produced in China, the North American model’s origin is unknown. If imported, it might not qualify for the federal EV tax credit.
Buick Electra E5: Our Wishlist

Given the increasing competition in the affordable EV segment, we’re hoping Buick positions the Electra E5 slightly below the projected $50,000 starting price. A base model range near 300 miles, with higher trims offering extended range, would be ideal. As an SUV, a spacious and comfortable interior, coupled with a sporty driving experience, is also on our wishlist.
We’ll continue to update this article as more information about the 2025 Buick Electra E5 becomes available.
