Aspyr Media is bringing the classic Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles action game to modern consoles and PC with a remastered version launching on January 23, 2025. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam.

The remaster stays true to the original 2000 release, allowing players to relive the fast-paced action and platforming levels inspired by The Phantom Menace. However, Aspyr has incorporated several modern features and improvements to enhance the gameplay experience.

Expanded Roster and Playable Characters

Unlike the original, which initially offered only five Jedi characters, the remaster unlocks all characters from the start, including Darth Maul and Queen Amidala. Additionally, players can unlock 13 new playable characters after completing the game, offering the chance to experience the action as a Rifle Droid or Tusken Raider.

Modernized Gameplay and Features

Aspyr has included several updates to modernize Jedi Power Battles. Players can switch between classic and updated control schemes, customize lightsaber colors, and access modes like training mode from later releases. Couch co-op, a staple of the original, also returns in the remaster.

Visual Upgrades

While retaining the original game’s aesthetic, Aspyr has upgraded the character models and environments. The trailer showcases noticeable improvements, offering a sharper and more detailed visual experience.

An Interesting Choice for Remaster

Jedi Power Battles holds a unique place in Star Wars gaming history. While not as widely acclaimed as other titles, it maintains a dedicated fanbase. The remaster provides an opportunity for both nostalgic fans and newcomers to experience this often-overlooked action game. Other classic Star Wars games, like Rogue Squadron, might have generated more immediate excitement, but Jedi Power Battles offers a distinct style of gameplay.

Aspyr’s Track Record with Star Wars Remasters

Aspyr has a mixed history with Star Wars game remasters and ports, ranging from the well-received Republic Commando remaster to the problematic launch of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection earlier this year, which suffered from online server issues.

The studio was also initially tasked with the highly anticipated remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Announced in 2021, development faced challenges, leading to the project being transferred to Saber Interactive. Despite being sold by Embracer Group, Saber Interactive continues to develop the KOTOR remake.
