The Game Awards 2024 reveal trailer for Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet offered a tantalizing glimpse into the studio’s first new IP in over a decade, introducing the protagonist and core story elements. However, some keen-eyed fans believe the trailer may also conceal a subtle hint regarding the game’s release date on PS5.
A Reddit user, Fattuzo, observed a seemingly innocuous detail in the trailer’s closing moments: protagonist Jordan A. Mun inputs the number “7202” into a Sony stereo system. While seemingly random, reversing this number yields “2027,” leading to speculation that this could be a cleverly disguised hint from Naughty Dog, pointing towards a 2027 release window for Intergalactic.
This potential 2027 release date, however, seemingly contradicts previous statements by Naughty Dog director Neil Druckmann. In a late 2022 interview, Druckmann expressed his dissatisfaction with the premature announcements of both Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Last of Us Part II, citing the negative impact on the studio’s work-life balance. He implied that future Naughty Dog projects, now known to include Intergalactic, would be announced closer to their respective launch dates. This suggests a 2026 release might be more realistic, minimizing the pre-release waiting period.
Currently, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is confirmed to be in development for PS5 and PS5 Pro. As we move into 2025, PlayStation and Naughty Dog are anticipated to unveil further details about this enigmatic sci-fi title and its eventual release.
