In both 2022 and 2023, The Game Awards served as the stage for the initial reveals of Death Stranding 2 and Overdose, respectively, raising expectations for this year’s event.

Kojima addressed the absence of news in a post on X (formerly Twitter), explaining his role as a presenter at this year’s ceremony precluded any formal announcements. He expressed his apologies for not having any updates to share, a sentiment met with overwhelming support from fans who encouraged him to continue his work. “This time for The Game Awards, I was a presenter so I had no announcements,” Kojima stated. “Sorry about that.”

February 2024 saw a PlayStation State of Play event showcasing Death Stranding 2 and confirming its 2025 release window. A similar State of Play event in February 2025 could potentially provide further glimpses into the game’s development and release plans.

Other Kojima Projects in Development

Beyond Death Stranding 2, Kojima is also collaborating with Xbox on Overdose, a horror title. Additionally, Kojima Productions is developing Phsyint, a stealth-action game considered a spiritual successor to the Metal Gear series. While details on Phsyint remain scarce, it is confirmed as a PlayStation exclusive.
