The Pokemon Trading Card Game is set to revisit a beloved card type with the return of Trainer’s Pokemon in the upcoming Scarlet & Violet – Journey Together expansion. Initially announced in August 2024, these special cards showcase iconic Trainer-Pokemon pairings from across the franchise’s history. While a 2025 release window was confirmed, a recent leak suggests a more specific arrival date: March 28th, 2025. This information, courtesy of PokeBeach, also hints at the inclusion of cards from the Japanese Battle Partners set and pre-constructed decks featuring Marnie and Steven.

While leaks should be approached with caution, PokeBeach boasts a reliable track record, and the proposed timing aligns with previous release patterns. Following the January 17th, 2025 release of Scarlet & Violet – Prismatic Evolutions, a March launch for Journey Together seems plausible. A trailer debuted at the Pokemon World Championships already offered a glimpse of English versions of these cards, further supporting the leak’s validity.

The concept of Trainer’s Pokemon dates back to the classic Gym Heroes expansion (known as Leader’s Stadium in Japan), which introduced cards like Brock’s Onix and Misty’s Psyduck, each featuring a small image of the respective Trainer. While these cards have reappeared throughout the TCG’s history, a fresh wave has been long-awaited by fans.

As showcased in the trailer, the Journey Together cards will continue the tradition of incorporating Trainer artwork alongside their Pokemon partners. The vast roster of Trainers across the Pokemon universe leaves plenty of room for speculation, but appearances from Lillie, N, and Marnie seem likely based on the revealed cards. Hints at other pairings, such as Arven and his Mabosstiff, suggest further additions either in Journey Together or subsequent sets. PokeBeach also suggests a prominent role for Iono, the electric-type Gym Leader from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, gracing the booster packs and boxes. This aligns perfectly with her presence in the Nintendo Switch games.
