Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have announced the arrival of the legendary hero, Conan the Barbarian, as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. The announcement, made this week, confirmed a January 21st, 2025 release date and was accompanied by a brief teaser trailer showcasing Conan facing off against the formidable Shao Kahn. This addition marks the second of three guest fighters included in the Khaos Reigns DLC expansion, following Ghostface and preceding the highly anticipated T-1000.

The teaser trailer, tweeted by Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, provides a glimpse of Conan in action, wielding his iconic sword against Shao Kahn. While the clip is short and doesn’t reveal a Fatality, it sets the stage for more detailed gameplay reveals expected soon. Fans can anticipate a longer gameplay video showcasing Conan’s moveset and at least one Fatality, followed by an in-depth breakdown streamed on Twitch closer to the release date.

The teaser primarily highlights Conan’s swordsmanship, leaving questions about his ability to counter opponents with supernatural powers. Another point of speculation revolves around the voice actor. While the character model clearly resembles Arnold Schwarzenegger and the voice in the teaser sounds similar, official confirmation is pending. Schwarzenegger’s involvement was not explicitly confirmed during the initial Khaos Reigns DLC announcement.

As with previous DLC characters, the January 21st release date grants early access to Conan the Barbarian for owners of the Khaos Reigns expansion. This expansion also includes Ghostface and other fighters. Players who opt not to purchase the full expansion can acquire individual characters separately for approximately $8 after the early access period concludes.
