Catly Gameplay Revealed: New Trailer Dispels AI and Blockchain Concerns Catly Gameplay Revealed: New Trailer Dispels AI and Blockchain Concerns

The mystery surrounding Catly, the upcoming game from SuperAunthenti Co., is starting to unravel. Following a controversial teaser at The Game Awards that sparked concerns about AI and blockchain involvement, the developer has released a new trailer and updated Steam page, offering a clearer picture of the gameplay and features.

The initial Game Awards trailer, featuring highly detailed cats, fueled speculation about the use of generative AI. SuperAunthenti Co.’s initial reticence to comment, combined with online investigations into the co-founder’s previous blockchain venture, only added to the confusion. The studio has since unequivocally denied using AI or blockchain technology in Catly.

Addressing these concerns, SuperAunthenti Co. replaced the original trailer on Steam with a two-minute gameplay video showcasing in-engine footage. The new trailer reveals a customizable island environment, adorable cat outfits and accessories, and a vibrant, psychedelic art style. While retaining the colorful palette of the initial teaser, the overall aesthetic and presentation are markedly different.

Further clarifying the game’s features, the Steam page description has been rewritten. The previous oddly phrased text, which contributed to the AI speculation, has been replaced with clear explanations of gameplay mechanics. Players can expect quests, flower cultivation, cat ability unlocks, and more.

A new “content” section on the Steam page also suggests gacha elements, with in-game purchases, including “chance based” options, hinting at a potential banner or pulling system similar to Infinity Nikki. Whether Catly will be an open-world game remains unconfirmed.

Despite these clarifications, questions remain. The feasibility of running the game on Apple Watch and the specifics of the development team’s composition are still unclear. However, the new trailer and updated Steam page provide a much-needed glimpse into Catly‘s gameplay on PC.
