Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has sent the gaming community into a frenzy with recent posts hinting at a new trailer for the highly anticipated Borderlands 4. While details remain scarce, Pitchford’s enthusiasm suggests the trailer is something special and could be revealed very soon.
Pitchford’s initial post on X/Twitter declared, “Cooking up a new Borderlands 4 trailer and it’s badass af. Latest render is knocking me out.” He later admitted he “wasn’t supposed to share” the news, further fueling speculation and excitement. The timing of his posts, just a week before The Game Awards, has led many to believe the trailer might premiere at the event on December 12th.

Following the acquisition of Gearbox Software by Take-Two Interactive from Embracer Group earlier this year, Borderlands 4‘s development was officially confirmed in March. Fans got their first glimpse of the game with a cinematic teaser trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live in August, an event also hosted by Geoff Keighley, the organizer of The Game Awards. This connection strengthens the possibility of a trailer reveal at next week’s show.
The initial teaser offered a cinematic glimpse into the Borderlands 4 universe. This time, fans are hoping for a look at actual gameplay. It’s been over five years since Borderlands 3 launched, leaving fans eager for new content. While the Borderlands movie failed to satisfy this craving, expectations for Borderlands 4 are running high.
Borderlands 4’s concept art has already revealed intriguing new environments, sparking further interest in the game’s direction. The upcoming trailer might also offer a release date or window. Current speculation points towards a potential summer 2025 release, though nothing official has been announced.
The Game Awards on December 12th might be the key to unveiling more about Borderlands 4. If Pitchford’s excitement is anything to go by, fans have a lot to look forward to.
