The OnePlus Open marked OnePlus’s entry into the foldable phone arena in 2023. While the company focused on refining its UI and flagship phone in 2024, the successor to the Open was understandably delayed. However, recent leaks, courtesy of SmartPrix, suggest the OnePlus Open 2 is on the horizon and boasts significant upgrades.
Leaked information, based on insights from leakers Chunvn and Yogesh Brar, paints a picture of a refined and powerful foldable. The OnePlus Open 2 is rumored to sport a sleek new design with curved edges, larger displays, and improved ergonomics. Its folded thickness is expected to be under 10mm, making it one of the slimmest book-style foldables available. Furthermore, an IPX8 water resistance rating suggests the Open 2 can withstand brief submersion.
Design and Display Upgrades

The Open 2’s displays are also getting a boost. The internal display is reportedly expanding to 8 inches, up from the previous 7.8 inches, while the cover display grows to 6.4 inches from 6.3 inches. This provides more screen real estate for both multitasking and on-the-go use.
Camera and Performance Enhancements
While retaining the triple-camera setup, the Open 2 is expected to feature a revised lens arrangement and upgraded sensors. Leaks suggest a move to triple 50MP cameras on the rear, mirroring the configuration found on the OnePlus 13 (Chinese variant). The selfie cameras are likely to remain unchanged, with 20MP on the inner display and 32MP on the cover display.
Under the hood, the Open 2 is tipped to pack the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, coupled with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, similar to the OnePlus Open’s Apex Edition. This promises a significant performance jump over its predecessor.
Battery and Charging Improvements
Battery life is another area of improvement. The Open 2 is rumored to house a larger 5,900mAh battery, a substantial increase from the 4,800mAh battery in the original Open. Charging speeds are also getting a bump, with wired charging reportedly increasing to 80W from 67W, and the introduction of 50W wireless charging.
Expected Launch and Relationship to Oppo Find N5
The OnePlus Open 2 is anticipated to launch in the first quarter of 2025, contrary to earlier rumors of a mid-2025 release. This aligns with Oppo’s (OnePlus’s parent company) confirmation of the Find N5 foldable launching before the Find X8 Ultra. Given the close relationship between OnePlus and Oppo, the Open 2 is highly likely to be a rebranded Find N5, with both devices launching around the same time.
It’s important to remember that the leaked images depict a late-stage prototype. Final colors and dimensions may vary. However, the leaks strongly suggest that the OnePlus Open 2 will be a significant upgrade, solidifying OnePlus’s position in the foldable phone market.
