The rumor mill surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 has been churning relentlessly throughout 2024. While Nintendo has confirmed the console’s existence and backward compatibility with the original Switch, its release date remains shrouded in mystery. However, a recent leak may offer a tantalizing glimpse into Nintendo’s plans.
YouTuber and Twitch streamer Stephen Georg recently shared an intriguing email on X (formerly Twitter). The email, seemingly related to a game release, mentioned a Q1 2025 launch window for “PC (Steam), Xbox One & Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and…Nintendo Switch(es)!” This heavily implies the Nintendo Switch 2’s arrival between January 1 and March 31, 2025.

If this information is accurate, a formal Nintendo Switch 2 reveal is imminent. A likely candidate for the announcement would be The Game Awards 2024 on December 12, or perhaps a dedicated Nintendo Direct beforehand. A post-December 12 reveal seems unlikely, given the proximity to the holiday season.
Of course, the possibility of fabrication exists. While it’s unclear why Georg would jeopardize his reputation with false information, the email’s sender could also be speculating. Planning a game’s release on the next-gen Switch doesn’t necessarily equate to knowing the console’s actual launch date.
As expected, Nintendo has remained silent on this potential leak, adhering to its strict no-comment policy regarding rumors and speculation. Should they offer any official statement, we’ll be sure to provide an update.
