The developers of the MLB The Show franchise, San Diego Studio, have confirmed a significant change for MLB The Show 25, addressing a major player complaint from MLB The Show 24. While the series consistently ranks among the most popular sports games, the 24th iteration faced more than usual player pushback, largely due to Diamond Dynasty’s restrictive card unlock system. Thankfully, that system is being revamped for the next installment.

A recent PlayStation Blog post announced the removal of Sets and Seasons in MLB The Show 25. In MLB The Show 24, Diamond Dynasty limited card usage to the specific Season in which they were released. This meant cards unlocked in Season 1 became virtually obsolete with the arrival of Season 2, and so on. This structure seemingly contributed to player attrition throughout the year as live-service support continued. Eliminating Sets and Seasons is expected to significantly improve the MLB The Show 25 experience for many.

The blog post states, “We appreciate the feedback from our community and have also decided that Sets and Seasons will not be returning in MLB The Show 25, allowing every card to be used freely throughout the year.” They also hinted at future live content plans, adding, “While we look forward to sharing more about our live content plans for MLB The Show 25 at a later date, our Season 4 approach gives you a sense of the direction of MLB The Show 25.”

Furthermore, San Diego Studio revealed a way for MLB The Show 24 players to get a head start on collecting items for MLB The Show 25. Starting November 22nd, “Now & Later” packs will become available. Cards from these packs will be usable in both MLB The Show 24 and, importantly, immediately accessible in MLB The Show 25 upon its release.
