The standard iPhone models have lagged behind their Pro counterparts in display technology, notably the absence of 120Hz refresh rates. Even the current iPhone 16, while highly regarded, maintains the 60Hz standard of previous generations. This is anticipated to change with the iPhone 17 series, slated for release in 2024.

Reliable industry source, Digital Chat Station, recently corroborated rumors that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will boast “high refresh rate” displays. This echoes a previous report from display analyst Ross Young, who asserted that all iPhone 17 models would feature 120Hz displays next fall.

A display’s refresh rate, measured in hertz (Hz), indicates how frequently the screen refreshes its content per second. Higher refresh rates translate to smoother visuals and enhanced responsiveness, particularly noticeable during gaming and scrolling.

Furthermore, all iPhone 17 models are projected to utilize LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) displays. LTPO technology allows OLED screens to dynamically adjust their refresh rate, optimizing power efficiency. This translates to both a smoother user experience and improved battery life.

Apple is expected to continue its current model structure with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. An all-new iPhone Air is also rumored to debut, potentially replacing the iPhone Plus. This new Air model is anticipated to be the thinnest iPhone yet.

The official announcement for the iPhone 17 series is expected next September.
