The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is rumored to include a potentially life-saving car crash detection feature. While this technology isn’t new, Samsung has lagged behind competitors like Pixel and iPhone in its implementation. Previous Samsung models, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy Z Fold 5, possessed the necessary hardware but lacked the software to activate the feature.
Recent documentation discovered by Android Authority suggests the Galaxy S25 Ultra will include the car crash detection sensor. However, the presence of the sensor doesn’t guarantee its functionality at launch. Even in phones with the hardware, the software activation has been absent. Code to enable and disable the feature has existed in One UI builds since One UI 5.1.1, but it remains dormant.

While the inclusion of the sensor is a positive sign, it’s not a definitive confirmation of the feature’s availability on the Galaxy S25 Ultra at launch. Development may still be ongoing, or other factors could delay its release. It’s hoped the feature will be available soon, as car crash detection technology, already proven effective in iPhones, can significantly enhance road safety.
The anticipated announcement for the Galaxy S25 Ultra is January 22nd at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, with preorders beginning January 24th.
