Samsung has announced the Smart Monitor M90SF, its first OLED monitor designed for a broader audience, ahead of CES 2025. This marks a significant departure from their gamer-centric Odyssey line, bringing OLED technology and enhanced HDR capabilities to a wider consumer base. This is exciting news for those who enjoy consuming and creating HDR content.
The Smart Monitor M9, like its predecessors, such as the M80B, functions as a standalone entertainment hub. It doesn’t require a PC connection and operates much like a television, featuring Samsung TV Plus, Samsung Game Hub, and a comprehensive suite of streaming apps accessible via a remote control.
While full specifications are yet to be released, Samsung has confirmed a 4K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate for the M9. This substantial upgrade from the previous 60Hz models allows the monitor to serve as a capable gaming display when needed, potentially placing it among the top monitors available.
The Smart Monitor M9 boasts a redesigned aesthetic with rounded corners, thinner bezels, and an impressively slim 9.9mm (0.35-inch) profile, thanks to the OLED panel.
Samsung is also incorporating new on-device AI features. One feature optimizes picture quality based on the content being displayed, analyzing input signals to identify the content type. Another AI feature enhances gaming by recognizing the genre and adjusting settings for an optimal experience, tailored to individual playstyles.
Furthermore, the M9 includes a “Pro” version of the AI 4K Upscaling feature, enhancing lower-resolution content from built-in Smart TV apps and the Samsung Gaming Hub to 4K quality. According to Samsung, this advanced AI analyzes input signals and existing image data to deliver sharper visuals with greater detail, regardless of the original resolution.
Pricing and availability for the Smart Monitor M9 are yet to be announced. However, given its OLED technology and advanced features, it’s anticipated to be priced higher than previous models. Samsung’s Smart Monitor lineup currently includes models ranging from 27-inch 1080p to 32-inch 4K options, and even a 43-inch model. The M9 with its OLED display is poised to be the flagship of this series.
