The world of Ghost of Tsushima is expanding into anime. At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, PlayStation Productions, partnering with Aniplex, Sony Music, and Crunchyroll, unveiled Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, an anime adaptation of the popular game. Scheduled for a 2027 release, the anime will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno (Star Wars Visions: The Duel) and animated by KAMIKAZE DOUGA (Batman Ninja, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure OPs). This announcement follows recent news of other PlayStation game adaptations, including Horizon: Zero Dawn and Helldivers.

Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, stated, “Building on the success of our gaming properties across film and television, we’re thrilled to announce our first anime adaptation. Ghost of Tsushima’s immersive world and its mythology-inspired Legends mode provide the perfect foundation for this project. Aniplex is the ideal partner to bring Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game to life as a stunning anime series.”

Released in 2020 by Sucker Punch Productions, Ghost of Tsushima follows Jin Sakai, a lone samurai fighting the Mongol invasion. Players grapple with the choice of upholding traditional samurai values or adapting to unconventional combat tactics. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, the multiplayer mode, allows players to team up as samurai against hordes of enemies. A sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, is also slated for release this year, featuring a new female protagonist, Atsu, 329 years after the original game’s events. The sequel introduces elements like firearms, wolves, and the protagonist becoming ‘the Ghost’.
