Pokemon Go Tour: Unova, launching next month, will spotlight Pokemon from Pokemon Black and White and their sequels. Niantic recently announced the arrival of a key feature from Pokemon Black 2 and White 2: Fusion. For the first time in Pokemon Go, players can fuse Kyurem with Zekrom and Reshiram to create Black Kyurem and White Kyurem. This feature debuts at in-person events in New Taipei City and Los Angeles from February 21st to 23rd, and globally on March 1st and 2nd.
Pokemon Fusions first appeared in Pokemon Go during Pokemon Go Fest 2024 with Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma. This reversed the mainline game order, where Black Kyurem and White Kyurem debuted earlier. While the Fusion mechanic differed slightly between Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 and Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, the core concept remained consistent: combining Pokemon into stronger forms that can later be separated.

Similar to Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma, creating Black Kyurem and White Kyurem requires 30 Kyurem Candies and either 30 Zekrom or 30 Reshiram Candies. Additionally, 1,000 Volt Fusion Energy is needed for Black Kyurem, and 1,000 Blaze Fusion Energy for White Kyurem, obtained by defeating Zekrom and Reshiram in Raids. Like Pokemon Go Fest 2024, players can encounter Kyurem, Zekrom, and Reshiram with Special Backgrounds, which combine during Fusion. These Fusions also boast unique attacks: Freeze Shock for Black Kyurem and Ice Burn for White Kyurem.
The popularity of Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma in Raids and Go Battle League led to their re-release last fall. It remains to be seen if Black Kyurem and White Kyurem will have a similar impact. Regardless, their inclusion is a welcome addition. Alongside these Fusions, Pokemon Go Tour: Unova introduces multiple Pikachu versions wearing hats and visors from Pokemon Black and White and their sequels.
With the event approaching, more details about Pokemon Go Tour: Unova are expected soon. Leaks suggest Timed Research tied to the event, potentially revealed during a Pokemon Presents on Pokemon Day next month. Pokemon Black and White are highly regarded by fans, largely due to their introduced Pokemon. Hopefully, Pokemon Go Tour: Unova will offer plenty for fans, regardless of their familiarity with the original DS games.
