Leaked benchmarks of AMD’s upcoming RX 9070 XT graphics card suggest it could rival Nvidia’s RTX 4080 Super. While AMD’s RDNA 4 architecture reveal at CES 2025 left many questions unanswered, unofficial data offers a glimpse into the potential performance of this new GPU.
Leaked Benchmarks and Power Consumption
Benchmarks originating from the Chiphell forum showed the RX 9070 XT performing comparably to the RTX 4080 Super in 3DMark Time Spy Extreme. Although the screenshots were quickly removed, the data revealed a graphics score of 14,591, placing it in the same performance bracket as Nvidia’s high-end offering. The leaks also indicated a higher total board power (TBP) for the RX 9070 XT than initially anticipated, rising from 265W to 330W, similar to the RTX 4080 Super’s 320W TDP.

Ray Tracing Performance and GPU Details
While the Time Spy Extreme scores were impressive, the leaked 3DMark Speedway benchmark, which focuses on ray tracing performance, indicated that the RX 9070 XT still lags behind Nvidia in this area, scoring 6,345. However, since the benchmarks were reportedly run with beta drivers, there’s potential for improvement with optimized drivers. GPU-Z data identified the card as an RX 7800 XT, but with different specifications, suggesting an unreleased model. Potential clock speeds were leaked as 2,520MHz base and 3,060MHz boost, but these remain unconfirmed by AMD.

RDNA 4 Architecture and FSR 4
Despite highlighting key RDNA 4 updates in pre-keynote materials, including a 4nm process, improved ray tracing, enhanced media encoding, and AI performance, AMD omitted these details from their CES 2025 presentation. A highly anticipated feature of the RX 9070 series is FSR 4, exclusive to RDNA 4 GPUs. Early previews by Hardware Unboxed using Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart suggest significant improvements in sharpness and ghosting reduction compared to FSR 3.1.

Future Expectations
These leaks, along with reports of the non-XT model achieving 99 fps in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, paint a promising picture for RDNA 4’s competitiveness against the RTX 4080 Super. With the release date still unknown, though preorders are rumored to open on January 23rd, further leaks are likely before AMD officially unveils the RX 9070 series.
