The devastating wildfires raging across Los Angeles are significantly impacting the entertainment industry. Since Tuesday, the fires have torn through Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and Sylmar, destroying thousands of structures and tragically claiming lives. Consequently, many productions across Los Angeles were forced to shut down on Wednesday.
FilmLA, the agency responsible for film permits in Los Angeles, issued a notice halting production. Their statement explained that “personnel resources ordinarily available to support film production may not be available during the local State of Emergency.” This shutdown has affected numerous productions, including the highly anticipated second season of Prime Video’s Fallout, which recently relocated to LA.
Fallout‘s first season was primarily filmed in New York, but production shifted to Los Angeles for Season 2. While the series was on a short hiatus this week, filming was scheduled to resume shortly.
Several NBCUniversal television projects also ceased production on Wednesday. Affected shows include Hacks, Loot, Ted, Happy’s Place, and the upcoming Suits: L.A. spin-off.
CBS Studios also halted work on several popular series. Productions for NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: Hawai’i, After Midnight, Poppa’s House, and The Neighborhood were all put on hold.
Disney and 20th Century Television paused production on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Grey’s Anatomy, and Doctor Odyssey. Warner Bros. also stopped production on Abbott Elementary, All-American, and The Pitt.
FilmLA’s statement further clarified the situation, noting, “The LA County Fire Department has specifically instructed that all permits issued for filming in the communities of Altadena, La Crescenta, La Canada/Flintridge and unincorporated Pasadena are withdrawn. Other permit revocations are possible.”
Beyond production halts, several film and television events have been postponed or canceled due to the fires. The duration of these disruptions remains uncertain, depending entirely on the fires’ containment. The entertainment industry, like the affected communities, faces an anxious wait as the fires continue to burn.
