Despite the recent launch of the OnePlus 13 and 13R, OnePlus and parent company Oppo are already preparing for another product release in February. This event is rumored to include the OnePlus Open 2 and the OnePlus Watch 3. While unofficial leaks abound, an official teaser suggests the OnePlus Watch 3 might incorporate blood pressure monitoring.

The teaser originates from Zhou Yibao, a product manager at Oppo, on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Yibao showcased the upcoming Oppo Watch X2, widely believed to be the basis for the OnePlus Watch 3. The post explicitly states the Watch X2 will detect unusual blood pressure fluctuations. An accompanying image displays a two-week blood pressure trend, highlighting potential hypertension risks.

This provides the first official glimpse of the Oppo Watch X2, and by extension, the OnePlus Watch 3. Though the watch body is partially obscured by protective cladding, the photo reveals button placement and a new pattern on the circular crown. The strap pattern appears consistent with the previous generation.

Competition in Blood Pressure Monitoring

Notably, the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 are also rumored to feature blood pressure monitoring. However, Oppo and OnePlus are likely to introduce this functionality several months earlier. Samsung has offered blood pressure monitoring on its Galaxy Watch for four generations, requiring initial calibration with an external medical-grade monitor. A similar calibration process may be necessary for the OnePlus and Apple watches.

OnePlus Watch 2: A Look Back

The OnePlus Watch 2, also marketed as the Oppo Watch X in some regions, was the company’s first Wear OS smartwatch. Key features included a premium stainless steel design and a claimed week-long battery life. Despite competitive pricing against the Galaxy Watch 6 and later the Watch 7, the OnePlus Watch 2 lacked features like cellular connectivity and ECG functionality. The circular crown was also non-rotating, functioning solely as a push button.

Expected Upgrades for the OnePlus Watch 3

OnePlus and Oppo appear to be addressing these shortcomings. The next-generation smartwatches are expected to include ECG functionality, alongside blood pressure monitoring and a rotating crown. While cellular connectivity remains unconfirmed for models outside China, leaks suggest the Watch 3 will boast an even larger battery.

Launch Date and Model Variations

Unlike Oppo, OnePlus has not officially announced the Watch 3 or Open 2, and launch dates remain undisclosed. Rumors suggest a Q1 2025 launch, but concrete details are scarce. Speculation suggests OnePlus may release a standard Watch 3 and a Watch 3 Pro, with uncertainty surrounding which model will be the rebranded Oppo Watch X2.
