OpenAI continues its expansion of ChatGPT functionalities with the introduction of “ChatGPT Tasks,” a new feature for paid subscribers. This feature allows users to set both single and recurring reminders directly within the ChatGPT interface.
ChatGPT Tasks functions much like existing reminder applications. Users can request ChatGPT to perform a specific action at a future time. This could range from compiling a weekly news summary every Friday afternoon, providing a weather forecast for a specific time and location, or reminding users about important deadlines like passport renewals. ChatGPT will then send a push notification with the relevant information at the designated time. To utilize this feature, users select “Go with scheduled tasks” from the model picker menu, then specify the task and its schedule.
The new feature is currently being rolled out in beta to Plus, Team, and Pro users across desktop, web, and mobile platforms. During the beta phase, users can set up to 10 individual tasks. While tasks can be created across different platforms, the task management menu is currently only accessible through the web interface. Reminder notifications will be delivered via the macOS desktop app, web browsers, and iOS/Android mobile apps.

ChatGPT Tasks mirrors the functionality of many existing reminder apps, offering a similar service within the familiar ChatGPT interface. This new feature represents OpenAI’s initial step into the realm of AI agents – specialized models designed to automate repetitive tasks and perform actions independently.
This area of AI is projected for significant growth in 2025. Competitors like Anthropic have already launched their “Computer Use API” for Claude, and Microsoft has introduced “Copilot Actions.” Google is also reportedly developing its own AI agent, codenamed “Project Jarvis,” and recently announced its integration with the next generation of Mercedes-Benz MBUX systems for navigation and entertainment.
This development suggests OpenAI is actively exploring the potential of AI agents to enhance productivity and streamline daily routines. While ChatGPT Tasks currently focuses on reminders, it hints at the broader possibilities of AI agents within the ChatGPT ecosystem. The future may see more sophisticated task automation and integration with other services, transforming how users interact with AI.
