Finding a reliable VPN in the Google Play Store can be challenging, but Google’s new verification badge simplifies the process. This badge, located directly beneath the app’s name, features a shield with a checkmark and the word “Verified.” It signifies that the VPN adheres to Google Play’s Safety and Security Guidelines and has achieved a Mobile Application Security Assessment (MASA) Level 2.

These badges aren’t entirely new to the Google Play Store; similar badges exist for identifying government apps. However, the VPN verification badge carries specific requirements designed to deter malicious actors. Apps must have over 10,000 installs, more than 250 reviews, and a presence on the Google Play Store for at least 90 days.

Google intends to promote verified VPNs, offering a significant advantage to those that qualify. Several VPNs, including NordVPN, hide.me, and Aloha Browser, already meet these criteria.

VPNs offer more than just data protection. They enhance online anonymity, making it harder for networks to be compromised and enabling access to geo-restricted content. They also shield web activity from internet service providers (ISPs) and can help bypass bandwidth limitations.

When selecting a VPN from the Google Play Store, look for the verified badge to ensure you’re choosing a safe and effective application. This badge offers peace of mind and helps users navigate the often-complex world of VPNs.
