Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has unveiled the striking design of the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Ultra smartphone through a series of images shared on X (formerly Twitter). The phone’s camera-centric aesthetic draws clear inspiration from Leica cameras, marking a significant departure from previous Xiaomi designs.
Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica has primarily focused on camera hardware and software collaboration. However, the 15 Ultra’s design signifies a new level of integration, mirroring the classic look and feel of Leica cameras. When held horizontally, the lower portion of the phone boasts a textured black material, reminiscent of camera grips, while the upper section appears to be polished metal or silver glass.
Design Details and Alternative Finishes
This distinctive design stands in stark contrast to the more conventional appearance of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The 15 Ultra features a prominent, glass-covered camera module housing multiple lenses, framed by a coin-edged bezel and a metal ring. The result is a harmonious blend of classic and modern aesthetics.
Acknowledging diverse preferences, Jun also showcased two alternative versions of the 15 Ultra: one in a sleek all-black finish and another in a striking all-white. Notably, the white version exhibits a unique brushed texture, hinting at the potential use of ceramic or a similar material instead of glass.
MWC Launch and the SU7 Ultra Connection
The Xiaomi 15 Ultra, alongside other devices in the 15 series, is expected to be officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona on March 2nd. Xiaomi has teased the event on its X account, also revealing the debut of a new variant of its SU7 electric car, aptly named the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, echoing the phone’s branding. Interestingly, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra was used to film a preview video of the SU7 Ultra, further highlighting the synergy between the two products.
