The modular computing company, Framework, has expanded its hardware lineup with the introduction of the Framework Laptop 12, an entry-level, 2-in-1 laptop revealed at a launch event in San Francisco on Tuesday. This marks Framework’s smallest laptop offering yet, boasting a 12.2-inch, 1920 x 200 touchscreen display with over 400 nits of brightness, stylus support, and a convertible design. Framework founder, Nirav Patel, touted the device as the company’s “easiest to use, most reparable, and most durable product yet.”

Despite being an entry-level offering, the Framework Laptop 12 boasts impressive specifications. It supports the full range of 13th-Gen Intel Core processors, up to 48GB of memory, 2TB of storage, and Wi-Fi 6E. These higher-end components deviate from the typical entry-level laptop and align with the colorful and flexible design hinted at in Framework’s pre-launch teasers. The Laptop 12 will be available in five colors: Lavender, Sage, Grey, Black, and Bubblegum, featuring a two-toned design that enhances its durability.

“We’ve incorporated shock-absorbing TPU over-molded on plastic with a metal inner structure to withstand bumps and drops,” explained Patel. “Like all our products, every part can be replaced in minutes.”

This emphasis on repairability and durability, along with the compact form factor and stylus support, strongly suggests that the Framework Laptop 12 is geared towards students and younger users.

Pre-orders for the Framework Laptop 12 will begin in April, with general availability expected by mid-year. Pricing details have yet to be announced.

Beyond the Laptop 12, Framework also announced updates to its existing Framework Laptop 13 and Framework Laptop 16 models. Additionally, the company unveiled the Framework Desktop, a new desktop computer powered by the AMD Ryzen AI Max processor, designed for both gaming and AI processing.
