The Oura Ring’s Readiness Score algorithm has been significantly updated to provide more accurate data for women tracking their menstrual cycles. This change coincides with Oura’s announcement of a collaborative study with the Scripps Research Digital Trials Center focused on understanding physiological changes during pregnancy.

The updated algorithm adapts the Readiness Score—calculated using sleep, body temperature, heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), and other sensor data—to individual cycle phases. This adaptation aims to deliver a more precise score, reflecting daily condition more accurately. Oura estimates that 65% of users might observe a change in their scores, primarily because key metrics contributing to the Readiness Score naturally fluctuate during the luteal phase. However, the company anticipates a lower Readiness Score on only about three percent of tracked days.

“The menstrual cycle profoundly impacts women’s health and well-being,” says Holly Shelton, Oura’s Chief Product Officer. “We are committed to reflecting the latest scientific understanding of women’s physiological changes in our app features. By grounding our product in rigorous research, we empower women with accurate, personalized information to navigate their unique cycles confidently.”

Reinforcing this commitment, Oura is embarking on a research study with Scripps Research. The study will collect data from 10,000 women who have worn the Oura Ring during pregnancy, investigating how physiological shifts impact pregnancy and associated complications. The research aims to improve understanding of conditions such as preterm labor, miscarriage risk, and postpartum depression. Interested participants can apply to join the study through the Oura app.
