The armor upgrade feature unlocks early in Chapter 2, upon reaching the Oilwell Basin region and regaining access to the forge. Gemma will introduce you to this mechanic.
The Armor Upgrade Process
To upgrade your armor, access the forge and navigate to the Forge/Upgrade Armor menu. Select the equipped armor piece you wish to upgrade, then choose the Upgrade option. This opens a new menu where you’ll use Armor Spheres to add experience points (XP) to the selected armor. Accumulate enough XP to level up the armor and increase its defensive properties.
Understanding Armor Spheres
Different Armor Spheres provide varying amounts of XP:
- Normal Armor Spheres: 10 XP
- Armor Sphere +: 50 XP
- Advanced Armor Spheres: 200 XP
Each armor piece has a maximum upgrade level. Be mindful of this limit to avoid wasting valuable high-level spheres on armor nearing its maximum potential.
Acquiring Armor Spheres
Armor Spheres are primarily obtained as rewards from completing quests and assignments. Before accepting a quest, review the quest information to see what type and quantity of Armor Spheres are offered as rewards.
Optimizing Your Armor Upgrades
Strategically manage your Armor Sphere inventory. Prioritize upgrading frequently used armor pieces first. Consider the maximum upgrade level of each piece and allocate spheres accordingly. Early on, focus on using Normal Armor Spheres, saving the more potent spheres for higher-level armor. As you progress and acquire more advanced spheres, you can further enhance your preferred armor sets to maximize your defensive capabilities.
