The new HMD Amped Buds, unveiled at MWC 2025, offer more than just great audio. These innovative earbuds also function as a portable power bank, providing a handy battery boost for your smartphone.
The Amped Buds’ charging case is a key feature, boasting a sleek aluminum alloy shell with a colorful matte finish. Weighing just 80 grams (2.82 ounces), the IPX4 splash-resistant case houses a substantial 1,600mAh battery. According to HMD, this provides enough power to wirelessly charge an iPhone 16 Pro by an additional 20%. A wired connection via USB-C boosts charging capacity even further, offering up to a 24% increase.
The Qi2-compatible case magnetically attaches to smartphones and iPhones with MagSafe support. HMD assures compatibility with most phone cases equipped with a magnetic ring, as well as any smartphone supporting wireless charging. While this concept isn’t entirely new, with several smaller brands offering similar solutions, HMD’s approach is unique in its focus on providing that crucial “last mile” of power when needed most.
Beyond the power bank functionality, the IP54-rated Amped Buds offer a comfortable fit thanks to their flexible hinge design. 10mm drivers deliver high-quality audio, further enhanced by EQ customization options within a dedicated app for both Android and iOS.
Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC), powered by a triple-mic array on each earbud, ensure an immersive listening experience. Connectivity is seamless with Google Fast Pair and multi-device pairing for up to two devices.
Battery life is impressive, with up to 4 hours of playback with ANC enabled and 8 hours without. The charging case extends this to a total of 95 hours.
The HMD Amped Buds are slated for an April release with a price tag of EUR 199. While US availability remains unconfirmed, the Amped Buds represent an innovative solution for those seeking both high-quality audio and a convenient power boost on the go. While reverse wireless charging is available on some phones, HMD’s dedicated solution offers a more integrated and reliable experience.
