The Motorola Edge 50 Neo in Mocha Mousse has arrived, and it’s safe to say it’s the most attractive brown phone we’ve encountered. While grey phones blend in, brown stands out, reminiscent of nature and vintage aesthetics. This isn’t your average brown, though. The Mocha Mousse finish on the Edge 50 Neo elevates the color to a new level of sophistication.

Brown is often associated with the past, bringing to mind 1970s car interiors or even natural elements like tree bark. However, the Mocha Mousse on the Edge 50 Neo transforms this perception. It’s a rich, chocolatey brown that complements various settings and accessories, from a wooden café table to a cream hoodie. It’s surprisingly versatile, proving that brown can indeed be a stylish choice for a smartphone.

More Than Just Brown: A Textured Delight

The Mocha Mousse finish isn’t a simple, flat brown. Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice subtle black flecks embedded within the vegan leather material, creating an earthy, textured appearance. This thoughtful design choice adds depth and character to the phone. The combination of the Mocha Mousse color and the vegan leather texture gives the Edge 50 Neo a unique, premium feel. A glossy glass finish wouldn’t achieve the same effect. The Edge 50 Neo in Mocha Mousse is akin to a classic brown leather jacket – a timeless piece that complements almost any style.

A Perfect Pairing: Wallpaper and Pantone Collaboration

Motorola understands the appeal of its Mocha Mousse finish and provides a matching leather-textured wallpaper. This thoughtful addition enhances the phone’s overall aesthetic, highlighting the flat screen and complementing the color beautifully. The color itself is a product of Motorola’s partnership with Pantone, the renowned color authority. The iconic Pantone swatch on the back of the phone proudly displays the Mocha Mousse name, further emphasizing the collaboration. This partnership, similar to the Grisaille shade on another Edge 50 Neo model, elevates the phone beyond a standard device. The Mocha Mousse is undoubtedly the standout color choice for the Edge 50 Neo, surpassing even the attractive Grisaille option.

Motorola also offers the Mocha Mousse finish on the Razr Plus 2024 (Razr 50 Ultra outside the U.S.). However, the Edge 50 Neo’s implementation is arguably more refined. The absence of the Pantone swatch and the gold frame on the Razr Plus make the Edge 50 Neo’s Mocha Mousse and gunmetal grey combination appear less ostentatious.

Beyond the Aesthetics: A Compact and Comfortable Design

The Edge 50 Neo’s sleek design, measuring just 8.1mm thick and weighing 171 grams, makes it comfortable to hold and operate with one hand. Its compact size is a refreshing change from larger flagship phones. Released in August 2024, the Edge 50 Neo remains a current model, although a successor may be on the horizon. Unfortunately, the Edge 50 Neo isn’t available in the U.S. due to Motorola’s regional phone release strategy. While the Razr Plus 2024 is offered in the U.S. in Mocha Mousse, those seeking this distinctive color in a non-foldable phone will need to explore other options. The Razr Plus, launched in June 2024, is also due for an update. It will be interesting to see what Motorola and Pantone have in store for 2025, building on the success of the Mocha Mousse finish.
