Setting ChatGPT as your default digital assistant on your Android device simplifies access and streamlines your workflow. With the latest beta version (v1.2025.070), you can replace Google Gemini and enjoy quick access to ChatGPT’s powerful AI capabilities.

Configuring ChatGPT as your default assistant enables you to launch it with familiar gestures. A long press of the home button or an upward swipe from the bottom corner (for gesture navigation) brings ChatGPT to the forefront. Additionally, you can activate ChatGPT’s voice mode with a long press of the power button.

While convenient, using ChatGPT as your default assistant does have one limitation. You won’t be able to activate it with a custom hot word. This functionality relies on privileged APIs accessible only to pre-installed, trusted apps, a category ChatGPT doesn’t currently fall into.
