The resurgence of Pebble smartwatches with the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 has generated significant buzz. Founder Eric Migicovsky recently addressed the overwhelming response in a detailed blog post, answering pre-order questions and offering glimpses into the future of Pebble.

Migicovsky acknowledged the influx of over 500 emails and thousands of comments since the announcement. He confirmed that Core Time 2 pre-order customers will have color options beyond black and silver, with a third choice yet to be determined.

Addressing iPhone compatibility, Migicovsky clarified that while core functionalities like calendar, music control, apps, and custom watch faces will work seamlessly, interacting with notifications remains a limitation due to Apple’s software restrictions. This constraint affects all non-Apple smartwatches and reinforces the Apple Watch Series 10’s advantage for iPhone users.

Looking ahead, Migicovsky hinted at potential features based on user feedback. A request for a compass and barometer in the Core Time 2 has prompted research into their inclusion. He even teased the possibility of revisiting the Pebble Time Round design, although no firm commitments were made.

The blog post also confirmed compatibility between the new smartwatch app and original Pebble models. It also suggested the possibility of hacking older Pebbles to run the new operating system. For Core 2 Duo buyers, Migicovsky reiterated the potential for plastic button degradation after two years, similar to the original Pebble, but reassured users of the watch’s repairability and ease of button replacement.

Finally, potential buyers were urged to act quickly, as the black Core 2 Duo has reportedly sold out.
