The AMD RX 9070 XT quickly climbed the ranks of best graphics cards after its release, but many gamers are still waiting for more. Scarce availability and inflated prices have left many hoping for new GPUs from AMD. Recent leaks suggest AMD may have just the answer with the RX 9070 GRE, and the rumored specifications hint at a potentially compelling mid-range option.
According to VideoCardz, AMD is preparing to launch the RX 9070 GRE, standing for “Great Radeon Edition.” The previous generation’s RX 7900 GRE offered excellent value, bridging the gap between high-end and mainstream cards. The RX 9070 GRE seems poised to follow suit, though it’s important to remember these are just leaks, and official specifications from AMD are still pending.
With that caveat in mind, let’s delve into the leaked specifications. The RX 9070 GRE is rumored to feature 3,072 stream processors (cores), a noticeable decrease from the RX 9070 XT’s 4,096 cores and the RX 9070’s 3,584 cores.

While the core count is lower, a higher boost clock speed of 2.79GHz might mitigate the performance impact. Memory-wise, the RX 9070 GRE is expected to pack 12GB of GDDR6 RAM with a 192-bit interface. However, the memory clock speed is reportedly 18Gbps, lower than the RX 9070 XT’s 20Gbps. This translates to a bandwidth of 432GB/s, compared to the flagship card’s 640GB/s.
The RX 9070 GRE’s release might be limited. Its predecessor initially launched exclusively in China before a later global release, where it gained unexpected popularity. A similar rollout is possible for the RX 9070 GRE, but a wider release would undoubtedly be welcomed.
AMD is also rumored to be launching the RX 9060 XT within the next few months. If true, the RX 9070 GRE could perfectly bridge the performance gap between the RX 9070 and the RX 9060 XT. With 12GB of VRAM and a 192-bit bus, the GRE could be an attractive option for gamers, especially considering the challenges faced by 16GB and 8GB cards with 128-bit buses in handling AAA titles. Ultimately, the RX 9070 GRE’s success will depend on its pricing and availability.
