Adobe’s Content Authenticity Initiative, first announced in October, has launched its public beta, offering a free app to digitally sign your creative work. This innovative tool empowers creators to embed “Content Credentials”—secure, invisible metadata—directly into their digital files. These credentials provide crucial information about the creator and remain intact even when the file is screenshotted or altered, unlike traditional watermarks. AI technology cannot edit this embedded information, ensuring authenticity and attribution.

This app allows you to include various details within your Content Credentials, such as your name (verifiable via LinkedIn) and social media handles. Furthermore, you can specify your preferences regarding the use of your work for generative AI training. This experimental feature aims to anticipate future AI regulations, prioritizing creator control over their data.

Once you’ve verified your identity and linked your social media accounts, you can easily attach credentials to images in batches of up to 50 files. Currently supporting JPG and PNG formats, the app functions seamlessly regardless of whether the images were created using Adobe products. Adobe has also confirmed upcoming support for diverse media types, including video and audio.

To view Content Credentials embedded within an image, utilize Adobe’s Chrome extension or upload the file to the web app. LinkedIn is also integrating with this initiative, enabling users to view Content Credentials directly on the platform by clicking on participating images. This integration facilitates easy access to artist information and attribution. Adobe plans to incorporate this authentication system into other Adobe applications, simplifying the “digital signing” process for content created within their ecosystem.
