If you’re considering a flip phone, the Motorola Razr series is a compelling choice. The Razr Plus is considered one of the best flip phones available, and the standard Razr offers similar features at a more accessible price point. Now, Motorola has unveiled the Razr 2025, offering a comparable experience to its pricier siblings at an even more affordable cost, along with unique color options. We had a chance to preview the Razr 2025 in New York City, and here are our initial impressions.

Classic Design, Enhanced Durability

The Razr 2025 retains the familiar design of its predecessor, the Razr 2024, but with key improvements. One significant upgrade is the titanium hinge, also found in the Razr Plus 2025. This hinge is four times stronger than the previous stainless steel hinge, increasing fold endurance by 35%. The redesigned ultra-thin glass also contributes to a smoother folding experience. Motorola claims a 30% smoother crease and display, and although we couldn’t verify this claim, the phone does feel noticeably smoother to the touch.

Displays and Fingerprint Sensor

The Razr 2025 boasts a 3.6-inch AMOLED cover display with 1700 nits peak brightness and a 90Hz adaptive refresh rate, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. Unfolding the device reveals the same 6.9-inch Foldable LTPO OLED main display as the 2024 model, with a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate, 220Hz touch sampling rate, and 3000 nits peak brightness. This main display supports HDR10+, while the cover display supports the newer Ultra HDR standard. The convenient side-mounted fingerprint sensor from the previous model also returns. While the Razr Ultra 2025 introduces a dedicated AI key, the Razr 2025 retains the classic, stylish design of previous generations.

Vibrant New Color Palette

Beyond the hinge upgrade, the most striking change is the fresh color selection. While the Razr 2024 offered Gray, Beach, and Orange, the 2025 comes in four new options: Parfait Pink, Gibraltar Sea, Lightest Sky, and Spring Bud. We were able to see Gibraltar Sea, a rich navy blue, Lightest Sky, a clean white, and Spring Bud, a vibrant lime green that stands out from the crowd.

Performance and Battery Boost

The Razr 2025 receives internal upgrades as well. It features the new Dimensity 7400X processor, an improvement over the 7300X in the 2024 model. The 7400X boasts a higher clock speed for improved performance. It’s coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Battery capacity also sees a bump from 4200mAh to 4500mAh, promising even better all-day battery life. 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging are supported.

Familiar Camera System

The camera system remains largely unchanged from the Razr 2024. The primary camera is a 50MP sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and 0.8µm pixel size, utilizing quad-pixel technology for improved light capture in 12.6MP photos. It’s accompanied by a 13MP ultra-wide lens with a 120° field of view and a 1.12µm pixel size, along with a 32MP front-facing camera. While the hardware is the same, Motorola’s updated camera algorithms may offer improved image quality.

New additions include Next Move, which offers contextual suggestions based on screen content, and creative tools like Playlist Studio and Image Studio. The Razr 2025 also comes with Gemini, Perplexity (including 3 months of Perplexity Pro), and Microsoft CoPilot.
