The Async A1 Pro e-bike distinguishes itself in the competitive e-bike market with its striking design, powerful components, and comfortable ride. This all-terrain e-bike boasts a unique aluminum frame, a high-power motor, and an impressive battery capacity, offering a range that surpasses many competitors.
A Head-Turning Design
The A1 Pro’s design is both visually arresting and functional. The aluminum frame, reminiscent of an elongated mailbox, houses the battery and controller. The vertical section encloses the mono-shock suspension system. Available in two-tone silver and black or silver and orange (as reviewed), the A1 Pro features bold arrow graphics that may not appeal to all riders.
Performance and Power

The A1 Pro’s powerful rear hub motor delivers 1,200 watts of continuous power and 2,500 watts of peak power, with a maximum torque of 100 Newton meters. This translates to quick acceleration and the ability to maintain 28 mph in Class 3 mode, the legal limit for public roads in most states. An off-road mode allows for even higher speeds on private property, reaching 34-35 mph in tests conducted on flat terrain.
Battery and Range
The A1 Pro is equipped with a substantial 48-volt 40AH lithium-ion battery, providing 1,920 watt-hours of capacity. Async claims a range of 50 to 88 miles on throttle-only operation. Charging the battery takes 8-10 hours using the included 5-amp charger, and the battery can be charged on or off the bike. Removing the 20-pound battery is straightforward, though its weight is considerable. The A1 Pro boasts an IPX7 water resistance rating, meaning it can withstand submersion in 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes.

Handling and Components
This single-speed e-bike utilizes a quiet and durable carbon drive belt instead of a traditional chain. Switching between Class 1 (20 mph max, pedal assist only), Class 2 (20 mph max, pedal assist or throttle), and Class 3 (28 mph max, pedal assist, 20 mph throttle only) is easily accomplished with handlebar controls. The A1 Pro features powerful four-piston hydraulic brakes with 203mm rotors, essential for controlling its 123-pound weight.
Comfort and Ride Quality

Despite its unconventional frame, the A1 Pro offers a surprisingly comfortable ride. The leather-like seat is well-padded, and dual air shocks in the front and a coil-over mono-shock in the rear provide effective bump absorption. Fat tires further enhance stability and comfort. The 5.5-inch full-color display offers clear visibility and provides essential information, including speed, battery level, and distance traveled. It also supports Bluetooth, GPS, and 4G connectivity for use with the Async app, enabling features like remote locking, bike tracking, and navigation.

The A1 Pro’s performance is smooth and controllable, with linear acceleration and responsive handling. Its powerful motor and robust construction make it adept at handling rough terrain and steep inclines. While the lack of standard mirrors and turn signals is a minor drawback, the A1 Pro’s overall performance is impressive.
