ChatGPT, OpenAI’s powerful AI chatbot, is now even more accessible on Apple devices. A new shortcut simplifies using the SearchGPT feature directly within the ChatGPT app on iPhones and iPads, as recently highlighted by MacRumors. This provides a streamlined way to leverage ChatGPT’s web searching capabilities.
ChatGPT utilizes a vast and constantly expanding dataset to perform a wide array of tasks, from answering questions and writing stories to summarizing information, translating languages, and generating creative content. While available through the dedicated ChatGPT app, future integration with Siri via Apple Intelligence is also anticipated.
This new Open SearchGPT shortcut, accessible through the Shortcuts app, eliminates the need for Apple Intelligence. Simply activating the shortcut automatically launches the ChatGPT app and engages its web search function.
Launched earlier this year, ChatGPT Search significantly enhances the chatbot’s functionality by integrating with Google Search. This allows ChatGPT to access real-time information, including current news, events, and specific details, supplementing its pre-existing knowledge base. The result is more comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date responses.
To utilize this shortcut, ensure you have the latest version of the ChatGPT app installed from the App Store. Next, open the Shortcuts app, locate “Open SearchGPT,” and add it to your shortcuts. This provides a quick and convenient method for accessing ChatGPT’s web search capabilities.
Currently, the Open SearchGPT shortcut is exclusive to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. However, free users are expected to gain access in the future.

Apple also plans to integrate ChatGPT with Siri in an upcoming iOS 18 update. This integration will empower Siri with ChatGPT’s extensive knowledge, enabling it to handle more complex and nuanced queries beyond its current limitations.
This integration complements the new writing tools introduced with Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1 and is expected to bring visual intelligence features to compatible devices. Apple Intelligence is gradually rolling out to supported devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 series, and select iPads like the 2024 iPad Pro and iPad Air.
