Amazon introduced its AI-powered “Shopping Guide” feature on Wednesday, designed to provide online shoppers with detailed information about technical specifications and leading brands across over 100 product categories, ranging from dog food to televisions.
These AI Shopping Guides will be available starting Thursday on the U.S.-based iOS and Android apps, as well as the Amazon.com website. Their purpose is to streamline the research process for potential purchases by summarizing key points and important information alongside product listings tailored to individual needs. Whether you’re looking for the right camping tent for your first backpacking trip, buying the best shoes for running in the rain, or the perfect new kitchen appliance, you can turn to AI Shopping Guides for help,” Amazon stated in a Wednesday blog post.
Amazon leverages large language models, specifically Amazon Bedrock, to gather user reviews, highlight important attributes, showcase use cases, explain features, identify leading brands, and clarify key terminology for various product types. This system also maintains up-to-date information as trends evolve and new products are released.
To access the shopping guides, users can search for a supported product. The guide option will then appear in the search autocomplete suggestions if available. Alternatively, the guides can be accessed through the “Keep Shopping For” card on Amazon’s homepage. Amazon plans to expand the feature beyond the initial 100+ product types in the coming months, although a specific timeline hasn’t been announced yet. Furthermore, there’s no information regarding expansion beyond English-language searches.
The AI shopping guides represent just one of Amazon’s many AI-driven initiatives. The company launched Rufus, its AI shopping assistant, in February, followed by Maestro, its AI playlist generator, in April. Amazon also integrated AI search results into its Fire TV UI in May.
