The Oura Ring now offers Symptom Radar, a powerful feature that analyzes sleep data to provide early warnings of potential respiratory illnesses. This innovative tool, previously in beta testing, is now available to all users of the Oura Ring 3 and Oura Ring 4. Symptom Radar acts as an early warning system, potentially alerting you to illness before you even feel unwell.

Symptom Radar simplifies health monitoring by providing daily reports with three clear levels: No signs, minor signs of a respiratory illness, and major signs of a respiratory illness. These findings are visually represented on a graph within the Oura app, allowing users to track their wellness over time and observe any evolving symptoms.

The system analyzes key metrics, including heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), breathing rates, and body temperature. By comparing these measurements to your established baseline, the Oura Ring can identify subtle deviations that may indicate the onset of illness. The app highlights which metrics have shifted, providing valuable insight into your body’s response. This personalized data empowers you to understand how the app interprets your physiological changes in relation to how you’re feeling.

If minor or major signs of respiratory illness are detected, the app recommends activating Rest Mode. This pauses activity tracking and goal-setting, prioritizing rest and recovery. Importantly, sleep tracking continues in Rest Mode, allowing the app to monitor illness progression. This provides more valuable insights than simply removing the ring when feeling unwell.

Symptom Radar is the culmination of nearly five years of research and development. Initially focused on body temperature fluctuations and fever detection, the system has evolved to incorporate a broader range of metrics and sophisticated algorithms. Oura claims the ring achieves 99% accuracy in temperature tracking compared to laboratory standards.

The feature, the first from Oura Labs to transition from beta to general release, became available in the Oura app on December 11th for all Oura Ring 3 and Oura Ring 4 users. This date was slightly adjusted from the initially announced release of December 9th.
