The Google Phone app on Pixel 9 series devices features Call Notes, powered by Gemini Nano. This feature provides automatic call summaries and captures key discussion points. Thanks to advancements in artificial intelligence, this functionality is poised for expansion.

Recent analysis by Android Authority of the Google Phone app’s APK reveals code suggesting an upcoming “Call To-do List” feature. This new addition appears linked to “Fermat,” the internal codename for the existing Call Notes feature.

The uncovered code hints that this new feature will leverage AI to identify and summarize actionable to-dos discussed during calls. Essentially, the AI will listen to conversations and extract tasks for later action. Mirroring the existing Call Notes functionality, the “Call To-do List” is expected to operate on-device, ensuring data privacy by processing information locally.

Currently, Call Notes is supported on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Presumably, the new to-do list feature will follow the same device compatibility.

Alongside the “Call To-do List,” Android Authority’s investigation also unearthed another potential feature: Google Dialer. This feature would track and display the number of declined spam calls within a given month. The practical benefit of this information remains to be seen.

While seeing a rising count of blocked spam calls might be frustrating, Google’s continued focus on improving core phone functionalities is encouraging.

Google is increasingly integrating AI capabilities across its products, especially within the Pixel smartphone line. This includes features like Live Translate for real-time conversations, Clear Calling for noise reduction, and photography enhancements such as Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur. AI also powers personalized experiences through features like Adaptive Battery and At a Glance. Furthermore, creative tools like AI Wallpaper and MusicLM generate unique backgrounds and original music compositions. Accessibility features like Live Caption and Voice Access further enhance usability for users with disabilities.

There is no official release date for these new calling features. However, the discovery of these features within the app’s code suggests they are actively in development.

We will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as they become available.
