The Kia EV9 has already established itself as a relatively affordable electric SUV, but Kia is aiming even lower with the official launch of the EV3. This smaller, more economical SUV follows a similar trajectory to Rivian’s R2, which succeeded the R1S. While not as technologically advanced as the EV9, the EV3 maintains a modern Kia aesthetic and a clear familial resemblance to its larger sibling. The split taillights and signature Tiger Face front are key design elements carried over from the EV9. Initially, the EV3 will be offered in nine finishes, with “Aventurine Green” and “Terracotta” currently announced.

Interior Design and Features
The EV3’s interior mirrors the EV9’s design language, but with two rows of seating instead of three, accommodating up to five passengers. This configuration suits buyers who don’t require the space of a minivan. The cabin aims for an open feel, featuring a large sunroof and recycled fabric on the door panels and dashboard. A dual-display setup, similar to other Kia EVs, houses the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. While not yet confirmed, CarPlay and Android Auto integration is expected, given Kia’s history of incorporating these technologies.

Powertrain and Range
Built on the same E-GMP platform as the EV6 and EV9, the EV3 will be available with two battery options: a standard 58.3kWh battery and a long-range 81.4kWh version. Kia claims the long-range battery will deliver up to 600 kilometers (373 miles) based on the WLTP cycle. However, the EPA estimates for the US market are likely to be closer to 300 miles. The performance-oriented EV3 GT-Line boasts a 0-60 mph time of 7.5 seconds, making it a respectably quick, though not exceptionally powerful, SUV.

Availability and Pricing
Key details like pricing and US availability remain undisclosed. The EV3 will initially launch in Korea in July, followed by a European release in the latter half of 2025. Kia plans to expand to other markets subsequently, suggesting a potential US arrival in 2025. If priced competitively, the EV3 has the potential to become a leading contender in the budget-friendly electric SUV segment.
