Destiny 2 is currently in its annual lull following the Dawning event, a period where players typically catch up on missed content. However, Bungie’s latest developer update has ignited excitement with news of upcoming changes to three Exotic weapons and a glimpse into the 2025 content roadmap.
The Graviton Lance pulse rifle, a dominant force in Crucible matches, will see its RPM reverted to 300, addressing concerns about its overwhelming power. Malfeasance, the Exotic hand cannon, is receiving a fix to its Precision perk, ensuring it correctly benefits from accuracy bonuses and ADS movement speed penalty reduction. Lastly, the Stoicism Exotic Glaive will be nerfed to balance its interaction with the newly fixed Spirit of Alpha Lupi perk, which now correctly provides a healing impulse.

These changes will go live with the Act III update on January 7th, concluding the Revenant storyline. The update will also introduce new weapons, artifacts, and an Exotic mission. Furthermore, a new Dungeon is slated for release on February 7th, with more details expected after the holiday season.
These updates are just the beginning of Destiny 2’s evolving content strategy. Following The Final Shape’s conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga, Bungie announced a shift towards two smaller expansions in 2025 instead of one large annual release.
The first expansion, codenamed Apollo, promises a Metroidvania-style experience with non-linear missions connected by over two dozen story threads. The second expansion, codenamed Behemoth, is scheduled for Winter 2025, aiming to revitalize the typically slow period following the Dawning event. These expansions will be supported by four annual updates, providing consistent content throughout the year, similar to previous Seasonal updates.
This significant change in direction comes after challenges such as the reception of past expansions and layoffs at Bungie. While The Final Shape seemingly delivered on fan expectations for the saga’s conclusion, innovation is crucial for the game’s continued success. This new approach to content delivery offers a promising future for both players and developers.
