Volkswagen is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup with the upcoming ID.7, an electric sedan poised to compete with rivals like the Tesla Model 3. While the official release is still pending, we’ve gathered all the currently available information about this exciting new EV.
Design and Interior

The Volkswagen ID.7 adopts a more conservative design compared to some of the more radical EV aesthetics we’ve seen recently. While recognizable as a modern Volkswagen, it might not immediately stand out as an all-new electric sedan. The ID.7 features contemporary design elements such as a front light bar connecting the sleek headlights, a rear light bar spanning the taillights, and curved glass along the roofline.
Inside, the ID.7 boasts a modern cabin with a prominent 15-inch infotainment display and a smaller instrument cluster behind the steering wheel. While we haven’t had a hands-on experience yet, the interior appears to utilize premium materials and offer ample storage space.
Technology and Features

The ID.7’s 15-inch infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling seamless smartphone integration. Driver-assist features include a head-up display projecting speed, warnings, and other vital information, and adaptive cruise control for a near-autonomous highway driving experience.
Price and Release Date
Volkswagen aims to price the ID.7 below 60,000 euros (approximately $65,000), with estimations starting around $50,000. The final pricing will likely depend on the chosen powertrain and trim level. Production has commenced, and the ID.7 is anticipated to launch in the U.S. in the second half of 2024 as a 2025 model, following earlier releases in Europe and China. The ID.7 will face competition from the Tesla Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Models, Colors, and Powertrain

The ID.7 is expected to offer various trim levels, including a base model, Pro, Pro S, and Pro S Plus, mirroring the ID.4’s structure. The base model will feature a single-motor configuration delivering 282 horsepower. Dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variants are planned for later release. Trim levels will primarily differentiate in performance and range. While the exact color options remain undisclosed, Volkswagen has showcased a striking deep blue. The color palette is likely to resemble the ID.4’s offerings.
Range and Charging
The ID.7 utilizes the same 77kWh battery pack as the ID.4, projected to provide around 400 miles of range. An 86kWh battery option will be available later, promising even greater range. The charging speed is currently limited to 170kW, translating to approximately 30 minutes for a full charge. While respectable, this falls short of the 350kW speeds offered by some competitors.
