Einride, a leader in autonomous trucking technology, has deployed its driverless electric vehicle at a GE Appliances facility in Selmer, Tennessee. This marks a significant step forward for autonomous freight transport.
This cabless electric truck operates full-time, transporting finished goods between GE Appliances’ manufacturing plant and its warehouse, Monday through Thursday. The zero-emission vehicle makes up to seven shuttles daily along a 0.3-mile private road, as announced by Einride.

This full-time deployment follows successful pilot programs, initially within a gated environment at GE Appliance’s Appliance Park headquarters two years prior, and subsequently on a public U.S. road last year.
Automating Logistics for Enhanced Efficiency and Safety
This initiative forms part of GE Appliances’ broader strategy to create an “automated logistics flow.” This aims to enhance employee ergonomics and safety around loading docks while simultaneously boosting work efficiency.
The system integrates various technologies, including AI-powered cameras that automate the raising and lowering of dock doors. Furthermore, the “Slip” robot automates loading and unloading, reducing loading times by up to 80%, according to GE Appliances.
Autonomous Precision in Action
Last year, Einride showcased the precision of its autonomous driving technology in a video demonstrating its capabilities.
Benefits for Both Workers and the Environment
GE Appliances executive Harry Chase highlighted that Einride’s autonomous technology reduces emissions and allows employees to focus on more complex tasks. It also minimizes physically demanding tasks such as climbing on and off forklifts and handling trailers. Chase emphasized that robotics and automation should complement and enhance human work, not replace it.
Henrik Green, General Manager of Autonomous Technologies at Einride, expressed pride in the partnership with GE Appliances and their leadership in providing autonomous solutions.
A History of Innovation
Einride unveiled its initial autonomous truck design in 2017, paving the way for subsequent iterations leading to the current model. This continued development showcases Einride’s commitment to advancing autonomous trucking technology.
Conclusion: A Partnership Driving the Future of Logistics
The collaboration between Einride and GE Appliances signifies a crucial step towards a future of automated and sustainable logistics. By integrating cutting-edge technology, they are optimizing operations, improving working conditions, and minimizing environmental impact. This partnership demonstrates the potential of autonomous vehicles to revolutionize the transportation industry.
