The second expansion for Alan Wake 2, The Lake House, arrives on October 22nd, promising a terrifying new experience for players. This DLC introduces a new playable character, Agent Estevez, and a familiar yet unsettling location: the FBC’s Lake House research station on the eerie Cauldron Lake.

Gameplay footage debuted during the October 2024 Xbox Partner Preview revealed intriguing details about The Lake House. The story unfolds prior to the events of Alan Wake 2‘s main narrative, exploring what happened at the Lake House before Saga Anderson and Alex Casey’s involvement. Lead writer Clay Murphy confirmed in an Xbox Wire blog post that the expansion’s events predate Saga and Estevez’s meeting in the main game.

Players will control Agent Estevez, experiencing gameplay similar to Alan Wake 2 but with a new FBC weapon at their disposal. While Estevez lacks supernatural abilities, she brings her own unique skills to the fight.

The Lake House emphasizes psychological horror, reminiscent of the Valhalla Nursing Home sections in the base game. Instead of familiar enemies, players will confront a new threat: the Painted, disturbing figures emerging from painted murals within the Lake House.

The trailer also hints at deeper connections to Control, another game within the Remedy Connected Universe. Alan Wake 2 already features numerous Control crossovers, and the FBC’s Lake House provides fertile ground for further exploration. A tantalizing glimpse of what appears to be Dylan Faden, a key antagonist from Control, caged and possibly still alive, adds another layer of intrigue.

Remedy’s communications manager, Miika Huttunen, acknowledged the resemblance to Dylan in an interview with Xbox, encouraging players to thoroughly explore the Lake House. Huttunen further fueled speculation about the Faden siblings’ future, stating, “Let’s just say that we’re as excited as anyone in seeing how the story of the Faden siblings unfold in the future.”

Access to The Lake House DLC is included in the Alan Wake 2 Deluxe Edition, priced at $80. This edition also grants access to the previous Night Springs expansion, offering alternative scenarios featuring other Remedy characters.
