Eaton, a power-management company with a history of innovation dating back to 1911, is once again at the forefront of change, this time focusing on the energy transition. Their latest move is a partnership with Treehouse, an AI-powered installation platform, aimed at streamlining and accelerating home electrification projects.
This collaboration addresses the growing demand for home upgrades like EV chargers, energy storage systems, and heat pumps. Eaton’s goal is to make these technologies more accessible and affordable for consumers, contributing to a wider adoption of sustainable energy solutions. Paul Ryan, General Manager of Connected Solutions and EV Charging at Eaton, emphasizes the company’s commitment to the energy transition and their focus on delivering innovative technologies and collaborative solutions.
The partnership with Treehouse promises faster and more accurate pricing for consumers, along with access to qualified electricians for code-compliant installations. This streamlined approach simplifies the process for homeowners looking to electrify their homes.
This initiative aligns with Eaton’s “Home as a Grid” strategy, which promotes bidirectional energy flow. This allows homeowners to generate renewable energy with solar panels and consume it as needed, or even sell excess energy back to the grid. This represents a shift from the traditional one-way flow of electricity from centralized power plants to homes.
The concept of homes and EVs as energy hubs is gaining momentum. Recently, Nissan joined ChargeScape, a vehicle-to-grid (V2G) initiative already supported by BMW, Ford, and Honda. ChargeScape’s software allows EVs to connect wirelessly with the power grid, providing financial incentives for delaying charging during peak demand periods. Future plans include enabling consumers to sell energy stored in their EV batteries back to the grid.
Furthermore, GM announced that V2G technology will be standard in all its 2026 models. Even Tesla CEO Elon Musk has hinted at the possibility of introducing V2G technology for Tesla vehicles in 2025.
This growing trend towards V2G and home energy management highlights the significant transformation occurring within the energy sector. Eaton’s partnership with Treehouse positions them strategically to play a key role in facilitating this transition and empowering consumers to actively participate in a more sustainable energy future.
