Ford is now partnering with Lectron, an EV accessories supplier, to provide North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapters for its electric vehicles, allowing access to Tesla’s Supercharger network. Initially, Ford used Tesla-provided adapters, but due to supply constraints, the company has shifted to Lectron.

Ford EV owners previously using the Combined Charging System (CCS) require a NACS adapter to utilize Tesla’s Supercharger stations. Ford has already begun distributing complimentary Lectron adapters to registered customers. Additional adapters can be purchased on Ford’s website for $200.

These Lectron adapters boast specifications similar to Tesla’s, supporting up to 500 amps and 1,000 volts. This partnership comes after Ford issued a bulletin in October 2024, advising customers to discontinue using their initial complimentary adapters due to potential issues causing reduced charging speeds and potential port damage. Ford assured customers that replacement units would be sent.

Importantly, these Lectron adapters are not replacements for the recalled units. Rather, they represent Ford’s continued commitment to expanding access to the Tesla Supercharger network for its EV customers. The demand for NACS adapters remains high, with some customers experiencing months-long wait times.

Following Ford’s initiative, many other automakers have embraced NACS charging. General Motors’ Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac brands joined the network in September 2024. Rivian, Honda, and Volvo EVs also have access via adapters. Further, Nissan, Hyundai, Toyota, BMW, Volkswagen, and Jaguar have signed agreements to provide access starting in 2025.

This expanded access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network is a significant advantage for Ford EV owners, simplifying long-distance travel and alleviating range anxiety. The partnership with Lectron helps ensure a steady supply of these essential adapters, further solidifying Ford’s commitment to a seamless EV ownership experience.
