The Rivian R1T electric pickup truck now boasts an impressive estimated range of 410 miles, thanks to the new Max Pack battery paired with the Dual-Motor powertrain. This information, shared by Rivian on X (formerly Twitter), is pending official confirmation from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This remarkable range applies specifically to R1T models equipped with 21-inch wheels.
Range Variations Based on Wheel Selection
While the 21-inch wheels maximize range, choosing the 22-inch wheel option reduces the estimated range to 380 miles. For those prioritizing the R1T’s off-road capabilities, the available 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires further impact range, bringing it down to an estimated 355 miles. These variations highlight the trade-offs between range and performance attributes.
Comparing Max Pack to Large Pack
The EPA has previously released official range ratings for the R1T Dual-Motor with the Large Pack battery, offering a capacity of 135 kilowatt-hours (kWh). These models achieve 352 miles with 21-inch wheels and 341 miles with 22-inch wheels. The new Max Pack significantly increases capacity to 180 kWh. Rivian also estimates the Large Pack with 20-inch wheels and all-terrain tires will deliver 307 miles, though this is yet to be confirmed by the EPA.
R1S SUV Range Estimates Coming Soon
Rivian plans to announce range estimates for the Dual-Motor versions of the R1S SUV later, as both vehicles share the same powertrain specifications. The standard Dual-Motor powertrain generates 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque, enabling a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.5 seconds (manufacturer estimated). The Dual-Motor Performance tune boosts output to 665 hp and 829 lb-ft, reducing the 0-60 mph time to 3.5 seconds.
Dual-Motor vs. Quad-Motor Performance
While the original Quad-Motor powertrain in the R1T and R1S delivers 835 hp and 908 lb-ft, it only offers a marginal 0.5-second advantage over the Dual-Motor Performance in 0-60 mph acceleration. With the introduction of the Max Pack, the Dual-Motor R1T now claims the title for longest range, surpassing the Quad-Motor’s maximum range of 321 miles.
Ordering and Pricing
Orders for the standard Dual-Motor and Dual-Motor Performance are currently open. The Max Pack option is available for the R1T and will be added to the R1S configurator soon. Pricing for the Dual-Motor R1T starts at $80,800 with the Large Pack and $90,800 with the Max Pack. The Dual-Motor Performance starts at $85,800 with the Large Pack and $95,800 with the Max Pack. A smaller Standard Pack will be offered with the Dual-Motor powertrain in both the R1T and R1S, with anticipated shipping in 2024.
