Tesla has finally begun delivering its highly anticipated Cybertruck pickup, four years after its initial unveiling. The first deliveries took place at a celebratory event held at Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas in Austin on Thursday, November 29, 2023, with CEO Elon Musk presiding over the proceedings.
The event was live-streamed on X (formerly Twitter), and a recording is available for viewing. The actual event begins approximately 25 minutes into the 50-minute video.
The presentation kicked off with a dynamic promotional video showcasing the Cybertruck navigating various challenging terrains, highlighting its off-road capabilities. Following the video, Musk took the stage to introduce the latest addition to Tesla’s vehicle lineup. He lauded the Cybertruck as “our best product,” proclaiming that “finally, the future will look like the future.”
A notable moment during the presentation was a re-enactment of the infamous stress test from the 2019 unveiling. This time, a projectile was once again launched at the Cybertruck’s window. While the original demonstration resulted in a cracked window, this iteration appeared to utilize a different material for the projectile, avoiding the previous mishap. The demonstration can be seen around the 30:25 mark of the video.
Further emphasizing the Cybertruck’s durability, a bullet test was showcased (32:12), demonstrating the vehicle’s resistance to ballistic impact.
Musk also addressed the Cybertruck’s practical functionalities, such as its towing capacity (34:12) and its steer-by-wire technology (38:46).
A demonstration of the Cybertruck’s performance capabilities featured a race against a Porsche 911 (40:12). This race, however, was not a standard head-to-head comparison, adding an element of intrigue to the presentation. The top-end tri-motor version, boasting a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.6 seconds, was used in the demonstration.
The event concluded with the first Cybertruck buyers receiving their vehicles. The final seven minutes of the video captured the excitement of these new owners, marked by handshakes, smiles, and Musk’s prediction that the Cybertruck “is really going to change the look of the roads.”
The commencement of Cybertruck deliveries marks a significant milestone for Tesla, bringing the futuristic electric pickup truck from concept to reality.
