Volkswagen aims to democratize electric vehicles with its budget-friendly ID. EVERY1 concept. Projected to launch in Europe around 2027 with a price tag of approximately €20,000 (around $21,500), this EV could become the entry-level choice for environmentally conscious drivers.
This compact four-door hatchback, currently a concept car, will join the ID. 2all, another affordable model slated for a 2024 release at €25,000 ($27,000). Volkswagen plans to unveil up to nine new models by 2027, solidifying its commitment to electric mobility.
“The ID. EVERY1 completes our mission to offer the broadest model range in the volume segment,” stated Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. “We’ll provide every customer with the ideal car and drive system, including accessible entry-level all-electric options.”
Volkswagen, grappling with recent sales declines, particularly in Europe and China, hopes this affordable EV will revitalize its market position. The growing European interest in EVs presents a prime opportunity, though the ID. EVERY1’s availability in the US remains uncertain.
The ID. EVERY1 is anticipated to utilize Rivian software and vehicle architecture, although not explicitly confirmed by Volkswagen. TechCrunch reports that Volkswagen sources verified the Rivian architecture integration, part of a $5.8 billion joint venture announced in 2024.
Volkswagen emphasizes a fun and attractive design for the ID. EVERY1. The boxy silhouette features soft curves and a wide rear. “Our goal was to design something bold yet accessible,” explained Volkswagen Head of Design Andreas Mindt.
He further elaborated, “The ID. EVERY1 projects confidence while remaining approachable, thanks to elements like the dynamic headlights and ‘smiling’ rear. These design cues transcend mere functionality, imbuing the car with personality and relatability.”
Volkswagen’s ambitious plans for the ID. EVERY1 signal a potential shift in the EV market. Its affordability and appealing design could attract a wider audience to electric mobility. The success of this venture remains to be seen, but the ID. EVERY1 undoubtedly represents a significant step towards a more sustainable automotive future.
